Orlando rapper, Caskey, took some time while kicking it in Los Angeles for the VMA’s, in a recent interview to chop it up with The Source. Birdman’s newest addition to the YMCMB team, discusses being a part of the YMCMB team, how bad he’d like to record an album with Jazz group, Sade, and more. Come on, Sade. Show Florida some love!
Do you have something you’re working on? Like a single, a mixtape, or an album?
I guess right now I’m in the process of recording a lot of music. You know? I wanna have a large catalog to pick from. I do the album though, whatever. I’m pretty much trying to write everyday. I haven’t thought too much about the direction of the project. I wanna see what I’m making.
I realized, after listening to your style, you have a lot of different flows and clever lines. Who were some of the emcees you grew up listening to, that you really looked up to or that maybe influenced you? I definitely caught the Bone Thugz line you dropped.
Yeah, yeah. I like Bone Thugz. They’re like all my favorites. I was a big Pac, Biggie fan. I’m a huge Nas, AZ fan-pretty much like all current Hip Hop. There’s so much dope shit coming out now. I like everything.
Right, right. A few emcees have come out with dedication albums where they take some of their favorite artists and either rap over those beats or kinda flip those beats. Like Jon Connor did for Eminem on his Best In the World Series.
Oh yeah, with that Eminem thing. To be honest, I like rapping over originals. I don’t do a lot of remixes. But I could see myself doing that. For sure. I’m not opposed to it at all but I’m gonna be into just trying to make original stuff. And I think for a while, people got wrapped up in that mixtape shit. I think they saw that it worked for Wayne, you know, and thought it could work for everybody.
